Today is the Solar Eclipse

Get ready for an unforgettable experience today, as a partial solar eclipse graces our skies. This celestial event is sure to be talked about for years to come.  For us in Las Cruces it is just going to be a partial eclipse. The light and temperature levels will drop slightly but the moon will not block the sun completely.

The next total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States won’t be until Aug. 23, 2044 and that's only in Montana and North Dakota, so let's make the most of our 83.6% obscuration today!

According to NASA's interactive eclipse map and data, on April 8, 2024, the partial solar eclipse in Las Cruces, NM will have the following characteristics:

1. Eclipse begins: 11:26:42 am MDT

2. Maximum eclipse: 12:35:36 pm MDT

3. Eclipse ends: 1:42:48 pm MDT

4. Obscuration: 83.6% (This is the fraction of the Sun's surface area covered by the Moon at the maximum point of the eclipse, as seen from Las Cruces.)

**Please note that it is never safe to look directly at the sun, even during a partial eclipse, without proper eye protection designed specifically for viewing the sun, such as eclipse glasses or solar filters for telescopes or binoculars. Sunglasses, smoked glass, or other DIY filters are not sufficient protection.

Dining Out

A recent visit to Taqueria Chavez on Lohman Ave tickled the tummy I will say. My gosh we couldn’t stop eating it was so good. Needless to say, we stuffed ourselves and rolled out of the restaurant. The Birria Tacos with consomé were tender and moist and so tasty.

Barbara said that the Shrimp Cocktail, which is what prompted the visit after seeing it on Facebook, was so good. The shrimp was crisp and fresh…not soggy and mushy…and was one of the best she has had in Las Cruces.

We visited at a slow time of day on Sunday afternoon and we got a lot of personal attention. The service and food was excellent. 😀
