Las Cruces Events for May 27th Issue

Adovada de Mesilla's Inaugural Event is on Saturday.

Hello Las Cruces

We enjoyed the Memorial Day hike put on by the Friends of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks at Baylor Canyon lead by Tom Dormody. Tom shared a Memorial Day presentation about the Civil War history of Baylor Canyon and the role that Las Cruces and Mesilla played.

Tom even surprised us by playing harmonica and wearing a civil war cap. I just posted some video and photos on our Facebook page.

I didn’t realize it at the time but this was maybe the last event until the fall weather arrives. We recommend that you sign up for one of these events especially if you love local history and the outdoors.

What's Happening Around Town

🚰 Water from Caballo Lake is scheduled to be released into the Rio Grande on May 30th. There will be a Celebration of Water Event at Leasburg Dam State Park on Saturday. Details below in events.

🌶️ The Inaugural ADOVADA de MESILLA event is Saturday at Farmesilla from 11 am - 4 pm. What is it? It’s a friendly competition between local chefs as they showcase their unique takes on Southern New Mexico’s beloved adovada dishes.

🥗 Taste of Las Cruces is coming up on June 5th at 5-8 pm at the Las Cruces Convention Center. Sample delicious flavors from local restaurants and food trucks and support Casa de Peregrinos food program.

👉️ Local events and things to do seem to be slowing down with the arrival of 95-100 degree days as venues plan around the hotter days. Just an observation.

Updates or Corrections

👉️ Any updates or corrections will be reflected online.

I'm rolling out a new approach to sharing events based on your feedback – and I'd love to hear what you think!

The Challenge

One of you reached out about a real problem: many events shared are posted only on Facebook or Instagram, making them inaccessible if you don't use those platforms. I completely understand this frustration!

My Solution

Starting today, here's how I'll handle event sharing:

First choice: I'll always look for official websites, Eventbrite pages, or other direct links outside of social media

📸 When that's not available: I'll create screenshot captures of the Facebook/Instagram posts and save them to a cloud link, giving you all the essential details without needing those accounts.

This way, everyone gets access to the same great event information, regardless of their social media preferences. Click on the image to enlarge and use the download link to save it.

Let me know what you think in the “What did you think about today’s Issue” poll.👇️

Got a green thumb? The Friends of NM Farm and Ranch Museum Greenhouse Committee is looking for some volunteers.

We stopped by the Spotted Dog Brewery on Memorial Day to enjoy a Green Chile Cheeseburger with beer battered fries. They make their burgers in house and honestly it one of our favorite places to get a burger. The burger was perfectly cooked on a toasted bun and the fries fresh and hot. $12.95 Go and enjoy!
